Digital Camera Batteries

A digital camera utilizes one of two types of batteries: A camera-specific rechargeable battery or stand-alone batteries (such as double A or triple A batteries.)  Every digital camera will come with batteries for you to use out of the box.  You may have to charge them first, as the longer batteries sit without use, the quicker they lose their charge.  Once charged, you can begin using your digital camera.  If you have a rechargeable type battery, you will be given a charger to use with it in the box.  If you have double A or triple A batteries, you will simply have to buy new ones and replace them when the camera runs out of juice.  The latter can be an expensive proposition as time goes on and may digital camera owners invest in rechargeable batteries to avoid the cost of batteries.

Additional digital camera batteries can be purchased for any digital camera.  Either you purchase the rechargeable battery that came with it or a third party equivalent or you invest in rechargeable double A or triple A batteries and recharge them on your own.  Rechargeable batteries can be expensive from the start but over time, they save the consumer money.  When it comes to purchasing the same type of lithium-ion rechargeable battery a camera might run on, you may end up being out a lot from the start.  As long as you keep the backup charged and with you, you will not run into any problems.

Rechargeable batteries, such as the double A and triple A types, can be purchased at most retailers, pharmacies and mom and pop shops.  Digital camera-specific rechargeable batteries often have to be purchased at an electronics store, camera retailer or online.  These batteries must be purchased exactly for the digital camera they are being used for otherwise the battery will not work.  These batteries cannot be bought by sight like many other types of batteries, so keep that in mind as you shop for digital camera batteries.
