What are digital camera lanyards?

Digital camera lanyards are often overlooked by consumers.  These small lanyards come with cameras and other electronics to help keep them secure at the wrist.  This type of security helps keep the camera from falling to the ground should you get jarred.  However, most consumers neglect to secure their camera with the lanyard.  This leaves them vulnerable to a drop, crack or simply throwing their digital camera across the way when moving around with it.  Digital camera lanyards should always be the first step to protecting your camera from physical damage.

How to buy digital camera lanyards

Before buying a digital camera lanyard, you want to make sure you do not have the one that came in the packaging.  Most digital cameras come with a lanyard, although it is not attached to the camera.  You have to attach it yourself.  It simply loops through a small portion of the camera and then you loop it around your wrist when taking pictures.  Normally, this lanyard is unobtrusive and helps keep the camera from hitting the ground if you get startled or lose your grip.  Most consumers overlook lanyards when unpackaging electronics.  So, if you did overlook it, and threw out the box, you want to take your search online or to a cell phone retailer to find a lanyard.  They come in a standard size, so most lanyards will work with most other electronics.

Where to buy digital camera lanyards

Generally, digital camera lanyards cannot be purchased at standard retailers.  You may have to search at the manufacturer's web site or other online vendor, such as Amazon.com.  You can also make your own digital camera lanyards from other device lanyards or even common household items.  When it comes down to it, you want to use the digital camera lanyard that comes in the box.  But if you threw it out when unboxing, you may have to invest in a new one and it is well worth the small price you pay for securing your digital camera.
