Does HDMI Brand Matter?
If you have purchased a new TV recently, chances are you were offered HDMI cables to purchase along with it. When you buy a TV nowadays, you do not just walk into a store and purchase a TV. It comes with cables, maybe a Blu Ray player or next generation video game console, home installation, home theater system or even more. You do not think about it until you walk into a store and realize that a TV is not just a TV anymore.
One of the biggest obstacles when selling a TV is educating a customer on why HDMI cables are important if they choose to go high-definition in their home. Without utilizing the right HDMI cables, you cannot get the full potential out of your new TV and cable service. However, due to retail culture and selling strategies that take advantage of uneducated consumers, many of these buyers think that sales associates are getting one over on them by trying to add on HDMI cables especially when it comes to the more expensive brands.
Monster is perhaps the most well-known and expensive brand of HDMI cable the average consumer is familiar with. A sales associate is generally trained to offer Monster cables above all other and then work their way down from there to more generic brands of HDMI cable. Monster cables offer the highest data transfer in comparison to other cables out there. This is why they are offered, and this is why consumers should take advantage of them.
The brand does matter when it comes to HDMI cables. The higher end cable offers the highest possible data transfer from the source to the TV. This gives you your money's worth from your initial purchase and gives you the opportunity to enjoy HDTV the way it was meant to be viewed. If you are in doubt about HDMI cables, do your research and take a look at how different HDMI cables work for different set ups.

It's not the brand that necessarily makes the difference as it is the speed of data transfer. Most of the lower end cables do not give you the speed you need and then it becomes a brand vs. brand comparison.
the brand DOESNT matter, yes of course a 200$ cable will have a better data transfer rate then a 0.99$ on eBay, BUT the signal between your source and your tv will NEVER (even in 1400p) exceed 8Gbps, so even if you have a super hype, diamond plated 0 gauge 60+Gbps hdmi cable you will never see the difference between this one and the generic one which can "only" supports 10.2Gbps, unless youre watching a 480hz @ 200fps video, which your tv will never handle. im not saying this just to bitch fancy cables, i made a comparaison with my cheap eBay HDMI cable and my brothers Monster THX certified cable, he was mad as fu....
name brand does matter if you need long-distance hdmi. i recently compared a 35ft cable from monster vs monoprice. the difference is night and day. for 6ft and under, it matters less.

I always thought that brand does not matter in HDMI cables; due to the reason that it is all just 1s and 0s passing through. The cheaper HDMI cables transfer the same data at the same rate as the expensive ones. Am I wrong?
I bought the cheap HDMI cables and am happy with them. But I have not done the Pepsi challenge -- comparing the high-end with the cheaper one right after the other.
