Why does Amazon.com offer free shipping?

Amazon.com knows shopping online should be easier.  Many consumers are hesitant to shop online because of having to use a credit card, slow shipping times and other factors.  However, Amazon.com tries to make things easier by offering free shipping on eligible items for all purchase $25 and more.  This is there standard free shipping service, which takes anywhere from 10 – 17 days to arrive after your initial purchase and processing time.  While you can upgrade to more expedited shipping choices, why would you if you do not need your items right away?

How to qualify for free shipping

In order to qualify for free, standard shipping on Amazon.com, you must spend a minimum of $25 on eligible items.  This is strictly for the item and no special services, such as gift wrapping.  Also, depending on the time of year, certain items may be eligible at one time and not at another especially during the holidays.  Depending on the specials running, some items may not qualify for free shipping if they are special editions or are in limited quantities.  Despite what might seem like a long wait time, sometimes the items do come quicker than the window they give when you make the purchase.  Do not count out free shipping if you think the wait is too long.

Does free shipping work on everything Amazon.com has to offer?

Amazon.com has terms and conditions for the eligibility of free shipping.  In some cases, the items you want may not qualify for whatever reason Amazon.com deems fit.  If it does not qualify, the item listing will note that so you know ahead of time.  The shipping for that item will be factored into your total price, and you can mix and match items that do qualify and do not in a single purchase but they will not ship together.  However, in most cases, as long as you spend $25 or more, you will be able to take advantage of free shipping via Amazon.com.
