What is a dual specialization?

Dual specialization, or dual speccing, is the practice of utilizing two different sets of talent trees to fulfill multiple roles in game.  Any class can dual spec once they hit level 40, and this can make it easier for them to quest, group or run dungeons as they level towards 80.  Once they hit 80, dual speccing allows them to fill multiple roles in a raid or dungeon which makes them more valuable than a player specced into a single playing style.

What does a dual specialization do?

The primary goal of a dual specialization is to allow a player to fill more than one role in the game.  For example, a Paladin may fulfill the roles of DPS, tank or healer in a group.  However, depending on what tree or trees they spec into, they may only be able to fulfill one role.  If they want to tank or heal, they would need to appropriately spec into two separate trees to properly do those roles in a group.  By dual specializing, they are able to pick and choose what role to be and can be a utility player to a group, guild or raid.

How to buy a dual specialization

At level 40, any character is free to dual specialization.  It costs 1000 gold, and it can be done at any class trainer in the game.  Once paid for, you can begin spending the maximum amount of talent tree points for your level in a second specialization.  Just like when you respec, if you choose to do so you have to pay per talent build you have.  Dual specialization allows a player to do more by trying out a new tree build, fulfilling a second role or just playing around with new abilities in game.  If you are interested in trying out something new, trying to maximize what role you fill in the game or want to try a new role as you level, dual speccing is the way to do that.
