How to Buy a Pet in World of Warcraft

What are pets?
Pets that are bought in World of Warcraft are companion pets. Any player can have a companion pet and these can be learned at any level. Companion pets are vanity items that follow a character around as they move and interact with the environment in basic ways. Unlike combat pets, they do not fight during encounters nor do they do much else but sit around and show themselves off. These types of pets generally prance around to be shown off. Since some pets are rare world drops or are even earned through special achievements, some pets are considered a great honor to have at all.
How to buy a pet
Pets can be bought in three ways: Via other players, via vendors and via the Auction House. When dealing with the Auction House and other players, you want to exert caution before the buy. Often times players will overprice a particular pet, especially when it comes to things you can seek out yourself. Even if it might take some time to find the pet you are looking for, if you do not have the gold to spare it may be more worthwhile to hunt for the pet yourself rather than buy it. Certain vendors throughout the game offer pets to be bought. For example, Cockroaches can be bought in Undercity for cheap from a vendor whereas a war mount costs a select number of marks from various battlegrounds in-game.
How to find a pet
Some pets are considered world drops. World drops come in two forms: Common and rare. Rare world drops may take some time to find, a little bit of luck and a lot of farming to finally learn. In other cases, you may easily find a pet by simply being in the right place at the right time. Depending on the type of pet you want, you may find yourself on the hunt for a companion pet as you quest or you may wait to find one down the line.
