What is a Mii?

Nintendo utilizes digital avatars called Miis to interact with Wii and DSi users.  These Miis started out solely for the Wii console and interact with other users via the Mii Channel.  Up to 100 Miis can be created per console, and these are used primarily to save profiles and for use in the Wii Sports family of games.  Mario Kart also utilizes the Mii characters created by those using a console.  Each Wii Remote can be set with 10 Miis for use if a gamer heads to play on another Wii console.  Miis can be transferred to and from supported DS games.  However, Miis can only be edited on the console where they were originally created.

How to create a Mii

In order to create a Mii on your Nintendo Wii, you want to make sure the Mii Channel is downloaded.  You can do this via the Virtual Console.  Enter the Mii Channel and select Create.  From there, you choose the Gender of your Mii, and then you begin to alter the physical appearance and other attributes.  You can control hair style, hair color, eye color and other physical and trendy attributes.  You can give your character sideburns, piercings, glasses, moles and more.  You can control the height and weight of your Mii, too.  Once finished, you name your Mii, along with giving it a birthday and a favorite color.  This favorite color becomes the primary clothing color for your Mii.  Now, you have created your first Mii and can choose to make it a favorite which syncs it to your Wii Remote.

Can you modify a Mii?

Miis can be modified by editing them through the Mii Channel.  As long as you are on the console that created them, you can do whatever you want after initially creating a Mii.  This means you can change hair styles, weight or other additions (such as piercings, tattoos or glasses).  You can even completely change the appearance of your Mii if you so choose without creating a new one or deleting the one you use with stats built up.
