How to Get Warranty Service After Circuit City Closes
If you currently have a Circuit City extended warranty or replacement plan on any purchase, you will still be covered when Circuit City closes its doors on March 8th. Since these extended warranties are backed by a third party insurance agent, Assurant, they will take on the liability of any issues, service or replacement you may need under the terms and conditions of the warranty you purchased at the store.
Depending on the type of warranty you purchased, certain terms of service may change. The first thing you should be aware of is that if you have carry-in service on an item, most notably TVs or computers, you will be given alternative drop-off locations in your area should you need service. Assurant will mail out these drop-off locations and instructions to warranty holders. You can also call them to find out where in your area you would need to go to for carry-in service on your electronics.
During the liquidation sales, extended warranties will still be offered on any product at a Circuit City store that comes with one. These warranties will exclusively be through Assurant as opposed to Circuit City. If you have any questions or concerns, associates will be able to answer these at the store or you can call 1 – 800 – 555 – 4615 or 1 – 800 – 286 – 0470. These two numbers can be used to answer questions, address concerns or for you to find out more information about how extended warranties will be honored after March 8th.
If you no longer feel confident in your warranty through Circuit City, even though your items will still be covered after the company closes, you can request a prorated refund by contacting Assurant directly. Your service plan will be prorated from the day of purchase, and you will generally receive a check for the remainder within eight to 12 weeks.

if i had known i would not bought from u guys
Good luck! I had a "plus" plan that covered accidental damage to my camera. When I attempted to get it fixed (I did not have my original receipt) City Assure said I had purchased a lesser warranty and would not honor the warranty I had purchased. They said they could not produce a copy of the receipt (maybe didn't want to) for my use in processing the claim. This all occurred after I City Assure directed me to send the camera to a repair facility. When they determine you don't have your original receipt, then comes the "scam"!!
I bought a big screen TV from Circuit City before they went bankrupt, that had a 4 year service contract length.
I had no problem getting them to come to my house to do the repairs necessary.
However, I've been having the same problem with my Sony TV since I bought it...& now, according to the warranty people, Sony says they cannot repair it anymore, so the warranty company is offering me a replacement. The problem is....they can't offer me a comparable TV & if I accept a check from them, it isn't nearly enough to buy a new Sony. Not unless I cut down from a 60" set to a 40" set. Then, I might have enough from the warranty people.
Not only this...but they are forcing me to pick a set from only one store. Tiger Direct.
I don't want a TV from a closeout store. They have garbage to choose from too.
I don't want to settle for a junky brand TV. It took me 3 yrs. to pay for my Sony...that I waited most of my life to be able to afford. I want my Sony replaced with a comparable Sony TV.
They offered me a nice Toshiba...but I don't like Toshiba's reliability. I like other brands that I would accept, but they have not offered any of those to me. The price on those is too much for them to shell out, I guess.
I supposed I should be glad that I'm getting any service at all, since a lot of you are out of luck. But I can't help remembering being told that if my TV pooped out or they couldn't repair it; they would replace it with another Sony. That's why I bought that particular warranty. It cost me enough.
How would I get a copy of my "original" warranty from Circuit City ? If I could find this...then maybe I'd have a valid argument with these warranty people to replace my TV with another Sony, and not a tiny one, either.
They offered me a Mitsubishi in the same size...But if any of you know the comparison to a Sony, they offered me junk !!
I paid a lot for the Sony. The Mitsubishi was selling for only $799., as it is going out of production soon, I believe...just like my Sony model did.
I don't want to be stuck with another TV that isn't going to be repairable. I spent too much money on my Sony to go thru this again.
Anybody know how I could get a copy of my original warranty from Circuit City ?
Does anyone know if an extended warranty with Circuit City goes for 4 or 5 years? I purchased a Sony camcorder in 2007 and I can't find the warranty agreement or original receipt. If the extended warranty goes for 5 years, I'll keep looking; if it goes for 4, I'll stop. A word to the wise ... save those receipts!
@Jes Richardson:
From my time at Circuit City, I believe camcorders only have a four year warranty. The only products off the top of my head I can think of that went for five years was TVs.
