How to Get a Cell Phone Upgrade Months Before Being Eligible
Why would you need to upgrade early?
If you are looking for a cell phone upgrade, you have one of three options: You are either eligible for a cell phone upgrade, you can cancel your contract and head to another service provider or you can try to negotiate an early cell phone upgrade. In most cases, cancelling your contract and switching services should be the last case scenario. You not only will have to pay a cancellation fee, you will also have to pay out the rest of your contract and then open up a new account elsewhere. If you are unhappy with your service and your cell phone, going this route would be best.
However, if you are looking for an early upgrade, trying to negotiate a cell phone upgrade could work for your favor. Many companies already offer early upgrades but if you are just shy, you can always use a few tips and tricks to try and convince your provider to let you upgrade early.
Are you ready for an upgrade?
- You are unhappy with your cell phone or your service
- New cell phones make your current on obsolete
- You want a new cell phone contract
- Your cell phone has broken
How to negotiate an early upgrade
The best trick to negotiating an early cell phone upgrade is to use the longevity of your contract with your provider in your favor. If you have been with a cell phone company for more than three years, chances are you want to upgrade to stay with your company with a new phone. Companies understand this and want to keep your business, and they may work out a deal with you for a new phone for less.
If you have not been with a company for long, you can try to negotiate a cell phone upgrade by saying that another service has offered you a better deal, a better phone and you are seriously contemplating taking them up on it. While this does not always work, it does worry the representative on the phone since they often work on commission and need to fill their sales quota for the day.
What to do if your cell phone company will not upgrade early
If your cell phone company will not allow you to upgrade early, your next option if you have the money is to buy a new cell phone outright. If you do this through your cell phone provider, you will pay full price. If you opt to do some research and bargain hunting, you can find cheaper, used phones at various places around the Internet. This allows you to get a new cell phone, avoid an actual cell phone upgrade and in most cases still be eligible for that upgrade when the time comes.
