How to Get a Pet in World of Warcraft

Pets can be obtained in a variety of ways in World of Warcraft.  For the average player who does not use combat pets, companion pets can be earned, bought and traded.  For Hunters, they can tame wild beasts at our below their level to use as combat pets.  Warlocks, on the other hand, learn to summon demons as they level.  Any WoW player can obtain companion pets, and while only one pet can be out at once, these pets give players a bit of vanity when running around Azeroth.  Since some of these pets are luck of the draw, bought or earned through special achievements, there is no telling what type of pets you will run into as you adventure.

Earning pets may take a bit of work to call them your own.  There are certain quests that award pets, as well as achievements that give you the skill to learn a particular pet.  For example, with the new Dungeon Finder tool, you can earn a Perky Pug by grouping with 100 or more WoW players in dungeons.  In another case, you may fish up a new pet just by fishing around the world.  In other cases, you might get a pet in reward to for completing a quest.  During some World of Warcraft events, such as Hallow's Eve, you can earn pets from drops off the Headless Horsemen boss.  In other events, you may earn a pet simply for logging in for a WoW anniversary.

Many pets can be bought from vendors as well as on the Auction House.  However, if you opt to buy pets on the Auction House, you may find yourself paying an over-inflated price for them.  These pets can often be farmed or obtained with a little hard work and elbow grease in-game.  Sometimes, if you do not want to wait, buying a pet on the Auction House may be more beneficial for a player.  Other pets, including mounts, can be purchased from vendors.  The more exotic or desirable pet, the more expensive they tend to be.
