What does fishing skill do?
Fishing skill is an overall useful profession for all players. Fishing allows you to catch fish, junk and other random items that can be used to level cooking, acquire new pets or mounts or even sell for gold. Daily fishing quests offer surprises, such as fishing poles, pets and other useful items. Leveling fishing also proves useful when leveling cooking side-by-side as many raw fish, especially at early cooking skill, can help make that profession level quickly. Fishing can be down all around Azeroth, Outland and Northrend in most bodies of water and lava. However, if your fishing skill is not high enough, there are bodies of water you will not catch anything but junk in until you are skilled enough.
How to level fishing skill
In order to level fishing, you will have to buy a fishing pole. The initial pole is relatively cheap and as you gain fishing skill, you will be able to acquire better fishing poles that help you along the way. Every time you cast a line and catch something whether it is a fish or junk, you can a hidden skill point. After acquiring a certain number of hidden skill points, you gain an actual fishing skill point. Over time, it requires more hidden points for one actual fishing point. Starting to fish from level one is the key to making fishing leveling fun, easy and exciting. If you wait too long to start fishing, you will have to go back to lower level zones to be able to fish up anything worthwhile enough to gain skill points. You can utilize baubles, night crawlers and other buffs to increase the skill level of your fishing to make it easier to fish in higher water bodies.
Tips and tricks to leveling fishing skill
The biggest trick to fishing is do not wait to start leveling it up. Begin fishing at level one and use what you fish to either cook, heal or sell on the Auction House. From there, utilize fishing lures to make your skill higher and offer you a higher catch rate. This will help you out by providing more sellable items at a lower character love. Any chance you have to upgrade your fishing pole, do so. If this means buying one, buy one; if it means questing, quest.
At level 14 on the Alliance side, you can do a quest called The Family and the Fishing Pole to get a new, better pole at that level. Nat Pagle also offers a neutral quest at level 35 for Nat's Lucky Fishing Pole. At level 50 on the Horde side, make a trip to Revantusk Village and speak to Katoom the Angler, he will give you a quest that rewards Nat Pangle's Extreme Angler FC-5000 which is a great fishing pole to carry you to Northrend. At level 70, you have access to the Shattrath fishing dailies; do them every day, not only do they reward experience but also fishing treasures that will contain goods for your trouble. At level 80, begin working on the Dalaran fishing quests for a possibly better pole that what you might have equipped. The Kalu'ak offer the only epic fishing pole in the game once you reach Northrend and is worth raising your reputation with them to get your hands on it.
