How to Open Digital Booklets
What are digital booklets?
Digital booklets are additions to albums, singles and media purchased online. iTunes introduced the concept of utilizing PDF style booklets with downloads to help enhance the music experience. Similar to album covers and inserts, digital booklets add to the appeal of an album and give you an insight into the artist's and band's contributions. When you purchase an album or song on iTunes, it may come with a digital booklet; if it does, it downloads just as the music does, too. You then can view it via iTunes.
Where to get digital booklets
Contrary to popular belief, digital booklets – as long as they are in PDF format – can be purchased or made from anywhere and imported into iTunes and eventually the iPod. Most consumers buy digital booklets via iTunes. Sometimes these come free with an album or song but otherwise there is an additional cost to do it. If you choose to do so, you can create your own digital booklets, import them into iTunes and to your iPod. Many consumers opt to scan album inserts from their personal collections, convert them to PDF format and then import them to their iPod to add to the album artwork. While you cannot view them on the iPod, you can in iTunes when plugging the unit into a computer.
How to open digital booklets
When you download the digital booklet, it downloads to your iTunes Music Library and shows up in the iTunes program as an Unknown file type. Simply double click on that line and it will open up in your default PDF reader, such as Adobe Reader. These digital booklets can be viewed this way, printed out or even imported into your iPod. iTunes will not automatically import digital booklets to your iPod unless you do so manually. Since the iPod cannot display them, iTunes disregards them when importing to the device.
