Why secure the Wii Remote?
If you have seen the intensity some gamers bring when playing the Nintendo Wii, then you know how danger the Wii Remote can be. Some commercials even make fun of it. If you have seen any of them, you know the Remote can be thrown around with some force which makes it dangerous if not properly secured. Once secured via wrist strap, the Remote can be safely used no matter who is playing or what game has been booted up. The Wiimote is also secured by using a grip which wraps around the Remote and helps keep it secure in hand when you begin playing. Depending on the game, you may start sweating and this can make the remote slippery without it. This coupled with the wrist strap provides the most secure support for the Wii Remote.
How to secure the Wii Remote
The first step to securing the Wii Remote is to utilize a grip. The Wii Remote comes with this out of the box. Simply place this over the Remote, it may take a little bit of nudging the first time since it is brand new and has not been on the controller previously. Over time, it becomes easier to put on and take off. However, it should always be on when using the Wii Remote on its own or connected to a peripheral that does not require it to be plugged into it. Once you have the grip on securely, you want to use the wrist strap to secure it to your wrist. You place the wrist trap over your hand and then slide it into position. You want to make sure you have enough movement with the Remote and that it is not too tight on your wrist. If it is too tight, it will be uncomfortable to use and could do damage to your wrist upon use.
What happens if you do not secure the Wii Remote?
If you choose not to secure you Wii Remote, you may hurt yourself, others or things in the room you are playing. Some games, such as tennis, require you to swing the Remote with force. This force, if you let go, will send the Remote flying forward which could destroy your television, Nintendo Wii or could hit a bystander. Taking the time to secure your Wiimote is key to playing the console safely.
