When to sell on the Auction House

There is only ever one reason to sell on the Auction House: To make money.  Gold becomes a necessary requirement as one levels to purchase supplies, mounts, gear and more.  The higher the level, the more gold is needed simply to train and without training, you might as well stop playing World of Warcraft now.  There are generally two types of Auction House sellers, the one's looking to make a fortune and the one's looking to make a quick buck.  The latter is the most common type of seller on the Auction House and they will often swiftly undercut prices to make gold as fast as they can.  Others, the ones looking to market a particular item, stack or more, seek to use the Auction House as their primary source of in-game money.  This comes from farming instances, skins, minerals and many items in hot demand by other players on a realm.

How to use the Auction House

In order to sell on the Auction House, you want to set up a bid.  Keep in mind that the Auction House takes a five percent cut of any item you put up, along with a small amount to list the item.  The cut is 15 percent if you use any of the three neutral Auction Houses around the world.  Simply drag the item or stack into the slot and then you begin setting up prices.  You can set up pricing in one of two ways: Buyout or bidding.  Bidding allows players to fight for an item and buyout allows them to simply buy it out.  If you opt to list a buyout price, you will have to put a minimum bid in as well for players to utilize if they desire.  Once the listing is ready, list it and away you go.

How to sell on the Auction House

Before selling any item on the Auction House, a player wants to get a good grasp of the particular market they are jumping into.  Compare other items to see what prices they sell at and simply undercut them by a small amount; if you are looking to corner that market, say in Copper Ore, you want to sell stacks at a serious undercut that still makes you a good profit for the time invested in traveling and mining.  Since more players tend to play on the weekends, setting up auctions on a Friday and going into that weekend will be the quickest way to sell items fast when the most amount of players are on the server.
