What is an Invision Free forum?

Invision Free is the free version of the Invision Power Board software platform.  It utilizes version 1.3 and offers free hosting for users looking for their own forum without investing in software or a professionally run forum.  Once you sign up for an Invision Free forum, you can control all aspects of the forum layout and settings.  The only things you do not control are the ability to make backups of your forum and the ads that are placed on it.  While you can choose an ad category, as long as you use the free version of Invision Power Board, you are stuck with the ads unless you pay to have them removed.  This can be costly, though.

How to sign up for an Invision free forum

In order to sign up for an Invision Free forum, you want to visit www.invisionfree.com. Once there, click on the Register button in the right hand menu.  Once the registration screen pops up, you want to fill in all fields completely.  Whatever username you choose will be your board name, too.  Also keep in mind that you want to pick the most secure password you can.  Make sure it does not relate to any other password you have or can be easily guessed.  Invision forums are frequent targets for hackers, and the easier you make it for them the more heartache you will may deal with down the line if targeted.  Once you have completed the form, you want to submit it and Invision Free will create your new forum for you to begin customizing.

Why would you need an Invision Free forum?

Invision Free offers a much cheaper alternative than paying for forum software, paying for a web host to house it and setting up complicated forum software.  Invision Free hosts your forum, offers technical support and allows you to do most of the things paid forum software does.  It is a great starting point for learning how to run a forum and deciding later on if you want to upgrade to the paid version, most notably Invision Power Board.
