If you saw Harry Potter opening weekend, you were probably shocked out of your seat when you realized you were watching the first teaser trailer for the latest Batman Film: The Dark Knight Rises. For most of us, we didn’t know what we were watching until we heard Christian Bale’s familiar voice as Bruce Wayne talking to Commissioner Gordon in the hospital. From there, the trailer took us on a ride for our lives with the first glimpse of Tom Hardy as legendary Batman villain Bane.

The Dark Knight Rises stars a host of characters from the past movies including:

  • Christian Bale: Batman
  • Michael Cane: Alfred Pennyworth
  • Gary Oldman: Commissioner James Gordon
  • Morgan Freeman: Lucius Fox
  • Liam Neeson: Ra's al Ghul
  • Nestor Carbonell: Mayor Anthony Garcia

It also is introducing fans to new characters:

  • Anne Hathaway: Selina Kyle
  • Tom Hardy: Bane
  • Marion Cotillard: Miranda Tate
  • Joseph Gordon-Levitt: John Blake

Batman: The Dark Knight Rises is due out in theaters July 20, 2012. While this date may change, it looks like it is going to be a fitting end to what Director Christopher Nolan says is the final chapter in his Batman saga. While it does look like this will be the last film, it is very well possible we will see more in Nolan’s vision either in spin-off films such as Catwoman since they are introducing Selina Kyle in this chapter only to end it.

If you are familiar with Batman history, you know that Bane broke Batman’s back in the comic book series. This rumor has been circulating around the Internet since it was announced Bane would be the big, bad villain this time around. Will Nolan truly end his Batman vision by breaking Batman? We will all have to wait until 2012 to see just how Nolan ends Batman.
