What is Cataclysm?
Cataclysm will be the latest expansion pack for World of Warcraft. It was announced in August 2009 at Blizzcon. WoW: Cataclysm will change the way everyone plays the game whether they purchase the expansion or not. Deathwing the Destroyer returns to Azeroth unleashing a second Sundering on the world. This radically changes zones in Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor, prompting the Goblins to choose a side and the Worgen to break free from confinement.
What changes will come from Cataclysm
Due to the sundering, Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms will be redesigned to emulate such devastation and destruction. These types of cosmetic changes will be available to everyone whether they upgrade to Cataclysm or not. The actual installation of Cataclysm will raise the level cap to 85, introduce the Worgen and Goblins as well as make available new race/class combinations (including Human Hunters, Undead Hunters and Tauren Paladins.) The Deadmines and Shadowfang Keep will get heroic versions and several new dungeons will be introduced for upper-level game play. Three new battlegrounds will be introduced, such as the Battle for Gilneas City.
The use of flying mounts will be available throughout Azeroth with the exception of Eversong Woods and Azuremyst Isle. These two areas will be instanced, so when you pass through it will be similar to coming and going from a dungeon or raid. Certain professions, such as Blacksmiths, Engineers and Jewelcrafters, will take advantage of a new ability called reforging. All profession caps will be raised to 525 and the title "Illustrious" will be given to those maxed out. Archaeology will also be added as a new secondary profession. A guild advancement system will also be put into place to add bonus achievements and development for characters.
Stats being eliminated from the game:
- Armor Penetration
- Attack Power
- Block Value
- Defense Rating
- MP5
- Spell Power
How to upgrade to Cataclysm
Cataclysm has no definite release date but it is expected to be released before Christmas 2010. While players will not have to install Cataclysm to enjoy many of the changes in the game, those looking for end game content will want to take advantage of reaching the new level cap and taking part in new dungeons, raids and questing. Closer to the release date, just like previous releases, you will be able to pre-order Cataclysm to enjoy the day it comes out.
