If you have never purchased new components for your car's stereo system, you may not know what makes up the entirety of said system. It is important to understand how each part makes up the overall sound quality of what you listen to in your car. Once you understand how each component contributes to the sound system, you can begin to plan the right way to go about improving your car stereo equipment.

There are four primary components of a car stereo: The head unit, the speakers, the amplifier and the subwoofer. The head unit is what most drivers are familiar with when they think of their "system." This is where you play CDs, listen to the radio or hook up your MP3 player to listen to music from that. There are many different types of head units out there; no doubt you can find one that fits your music listening needs.

The next crucial component is the speakers. These are located in the front and rear of most cars, and unless you really are paying attention, you probably do not even pay them the time of day during your drive. A good pair of speakers, just a single pair, can make a huge difference in the playback of your head unit. Couple this with a good amplifier and subwoofer and the possibilities are endless. The amplifier acts as a power conduit for the speakers, giving them more power to produce a wider range of sound than just the head unit can direct. The subwoofer, along with the other components, helps produce certain aspects of sound that the speakers cannot.

By combining all four parts, you bring out the best in the system. By only replacing one part with a higher quality component, you are wasting your time and money. Why would a decent head unit work with mediocre speakers and vice versa? Only by investing in the entirety of the system will you bring out the best in your car stereo system.
