DC++ is a type of filesharing software program.  It utilizes the peer to peer concept similar to programs such as LimeWire.  DC++ is a popular alternative, in several forms, to other peer to peer programs, because it allows an individual user and group to have more control over files sent and received.  This allows users to share larger files, download them quicker and find rooms similar to what they are looking for in a timelier manner.

The program works after finding "hubs" depending on your interests. Depending on the amount of share, you may join a hub, register in said hub and then begin perusing file lists of other users. Each hub has its own set of rules, including file share minimums, search limits and download limits. Once you reach those limits, you have to wait for them to reset. Some hubs are very strict about who they let in and frequently protect their users from fraudulent files, users and other issues that pop up.

There are two primary ways to find files via DC++. You can either browse individual user file lists or search. You can then pick which files or folders you want to download. DC++ allows users to deny download requests, too, as well as block certain individuals from downloading from them at all. Even hubs can deny users who violate the rules or for whatever reason they want. DC++ is a more secure way to download files since most hubs have such strict rules in place and folks moderating said infractions.

Remember that filesharing can be illegal depending on what you are uploading and downloading.  Programs such as DC++ can be traced by authorities, and they do comb hubs to find those engaging in illegal activity.  Filesharing should only be used for legal purposes to ensure you do not find yourself in a situation you regret.  Take the time to ensure your files are secure, you are only sharing legal files and you are only downloading such files.
