When setting up a network at home, finding the perfect balance between hardwire and wireless connections can take time. Depending on your house, where your computers and other devices are located and what type of stability you are looking for in a connection, you may have to utilize multiple connections to get the best out of your ISP. Taking the time to find the right connection comes down to whether you want to go hardwire or wireless.

Hardwire networking is when you take your computer, no matter what type, and use an Ethernet cord into the router directly. While you do this, you can still connect devices wireless or even more hardwired. A hardwire connection gives you a more secure and stable connection. You can transfer data quicker via a hardwire connection than over a wireless one, because you are directly connected to the source from your ISP as opposed to relying on a wireless signal being transmitted from the router to your device.

Wireless networking allows you to connect multiple wireless-enabled devices to your router. Long-term this can prove to be detrimental to the stability of your Internet connection. The more devices you have connected, the further away your devices or are the overall data transfer speed being delivered through the wireless connection can make wireless networking a frustrating task. However, in a properly set-up wireless network, you can still do all the things a hardwire connection can just at a slower speed.

No matter how you set-up your network, make sure you are going with the right option for your computing needs. If you need hardwire, go hardwire; if wireless will work better, go that route. Do not settle for less from your Internet connection, take the time to research your options, implement them and then utilize the networking solution that works right for you.

Not necessarily; depending on what you are doing on the Internet, wireless can actually be frustrating or detrimental because of the lack of a stable connection.

I love wireless. I haven't had much problems in terms of lack of stable connection. There have been a few occassions where it goes out, but it's typically fixed within no time without problems.

There's also the risk of radiation using wireless. That may affect your health. I use hard wired myself for stability, speed and safety ;-]
