How Do Speakers Work?
72Speakers
When it comes to sound systems, the speakers are the most important component. Without proper speakers, ones that work well with the entire system, you might as well not even turn the thing on. Good speakers produce good sound quality, and in turn, give you a sound experience unlike anything else in the world.
Understanding speakers starts with understanding sound. In order to hear, vibrations from the eardrum are interpreted by the brain that creates an understanding of the sound around us. Changes in the air pressure that glow into the ear is how sound travels from once source to the eardrum. Speakers produce changes in air pressure and that is how we hear our favorite television shows, movies or music through them.
Speakers produce sounds on different levels. These levels change the vibrations that attack the eardrum. Faster fluctuations in air pressure create a type of sound wave frequency, increasing the height of pitch involved in the sound. The lower the fluctuations, the lower the pitch. Amplitude is created when the eardrum reacts quicker than normal, and this creates a higher volume level we hear.
When speakers produce sound, the sound waves change the air pressure that hits our eardrum depending on how they react. Speakers take what is on a CD, DVD or television and recreate the recorded sound so that we can hear it in a way our brains will be able to interpret. They change the air pressure inside, and then expel it outward, until we hear the sound via our eardrums.
Depending on the type of speakers, the sound experience changes. Subwoofers, amplifiers and different types of speakers combine sound effects to reproduce them in a way our brains can interpret them for us. Once our brain does that, we are able to immerse ourselves in a world of make believe on TV or through music.
How speakers work
Without speakers, it would be impossible to enjoy entertainment the way we normally do. Taking the time to find the right type for your system is key. Sampling speakers, listening to demos and doing research on them will ensure the best sound quality for your home and overall listening experience.
