Limiting the Volume Level On an iPod
One of the best features introduced to the iPod in recent updates and versions is the ability to limit volume control on the device. While most users are capable of determining what volume level to listen to their device at, sometimes either by accident or on purpose, you can change the volume by bumping the wheel. This can cause a disruption of sound or in some cases a painful reminder of why you should not listen to music at such a high volume.
Limiting the volume is easy. First, go to the Settings. From there, you will want to choose Volume Limit. Once there, you can determine where you want the maximum volume to be set. Once set, you can also secure the settings by forcing users to enter a four digit security code for the unit to change the limit. This is a good way to keep children from listening to music at such a volume it could cause hearing damage.
Once the volume limit is set, a combination will appear on screen. This will allow the user to set a code to change the limit down the line. If you are setting a limit for your children, following the next steps to create a combination. First, spin the wheel left and right to pick a number for each of the four spaces. Once you have picked the combination you want, the volume will be set and cannot be changed without inserting the correct code to access it again.
It is important to note that most third-party accessories for iPods do not recognize the volume limit and will disable it upon use. Some music cannot be appreciated at low volume levels either, even if they are designed to be projected through headphones. Depending on your settings, you may find it takes time to find the right limits for each user. If that is the case, explaining and understanding the importance of limiting the volume on a device is key to prevent hearing loss down the line. After all, if you cannot hear, how can you take advantage of the iPod and all it has to offer?
