Nobody likes junk mail, especially when it comes via e-mail. Getting signed up for mailing lists on the Internet is a surefire way to fill your inbox with junk. However, even when we do not sign up for mailing lists, we sometimes still find ourselves on them. There are a few tips and tricks to unsubscribe from even the most stubborn mailing lists.

When you receive a mailing list immediately, scroll the bottom and find out if there is an unsubscribe link. If there is, follow the steps it provides and saves the confirmation e-mail for unsubscription. Give it ten to 14 days, and if you still receive e-mail from them, report them to your ISP. Mailing list providers can get into hot water for continuing to send junk mail to your inbox. By reporting them, you are combating their tactics.

If the e-mail does not have an unsubscribe link, you can do one of two things: Either add them to your spam filter or visit their web site and see if there is a contact us link. If there is, you can contact their support and request to be taken off the list. You can try sending an unsubscribe request via the e-mail you received, but chances are it will bounce back as undeliverable since most are filtered through a series of e-mail addresses.

If all else fails, you can create a spam filter for mailing list junk, and your mail will be sorted out for you. While this should be your last resort, spam filters are useful for filtering out not just mailing list junk. You can set them up to let through the mailing lists you do wish to read, but since spam filters can be oversensitive, you may have to tweak the settings to your liking. Mailing lists do not have to spam your inbox, take control of your e-mail and do what you can to combat spam!
