What is the Mywebsearch Toolbar?
Mywebsearch Toolbar is another type of Internet navigational bar that will help guide you around the world wide web. It is a customizable toolbar for Microsoft Internet Explorer. However, as reported by many Internet users, the toolbar is bundled within other downloads and is not necessarily a desirable add-on to their web browser. Most adware and spy ware companies agree that it is considered a low risk software program. The only time it will cause a program is when it is downloaded without consent which many users have reported as happening.
The toolbar comes bundled with a variety of software online, such as Cursor Mania, My Mail Stationary, PopSwatter and as part of the My Way portal. One of the benefits of such a toolbar is that it contains a 404 redirector in the event that a web page you find is no longer valid, it will redirect you to a similar page. You can also add buttons and customize it further for your particular web browsing needs, just like the Google or Yahoo toolbars.
Low risk programs, such as this, do track online data and transmit it back to a parent company that monitors its progress. Demographics, such as where you are located, where you are searching and other Internet data, may be used by such companies for marketing purposes or other means. The toolbar can make you computer run slower and slowdown your web site loading time, too.
Most adware and spy ware programs consider it a threat and will alert you to its presence when you run scans. Spybot Search and Destroy as well as Lavasoft's Ad-Aware will prompt you to remove the programs when detected. Most computers will run a bit faster with the program uninstalled.

Is it necessary?
Depending on what programs you have installed, you may find benefits from the Mywebsearch Toolbar installed. If you are currently using any of their other products, then, the toolbar will have come bundled with the software. If you enjoy the toolbar, have customized it and find it useful, then, there is no reason why you should not be using it. If, however, you notice a lag in your connection or things running slowly, chances are it is eating up a lot of your computer's memory due to its tracking method. This could be cause for concern, and you may find that uninstalling the program and its suite-mates might be the best way to speed up your computer.
While Mywebsearch Toolbar is not harmful, it does track data and send that back using your own Internet connection. If you do not like the idea of data mining and having those statistics sent back to Mywebsearch, then, uninstalling the toolbar is the only way to stop the process from occurring. Whether you actively download the toolbar or not, you are agreeing in their terms and conditions upon installation to allow them to track and use the data they receive from your connection.
How do I remove it?
There are several steps to go about removing the Mywebsearch Toolbar if you decide to eliminate it from your system. First, if you are not sure if you do have it or not, all you need to do is open Internet Explorer and see if the toolbar appears. If it does not, you will want to check your context menus to see if you can show it; it may be hidden to avoid detection. Another surefire way to determine if it has been installed is to run a program called HijackThis.
HijackThis is a browser hijacker tool that will scan your computer and show you the different browser-based edits and hijacks. Always make sure to save a log file of the data in case you delete something you need, and then run a scan of your computer.

If any of them do exist, then, the toolbar has been installed on your computer. You can clear these selections by checking the box next to them and then selecting "Fix This." You can do this now, or you can wait until later to do so. You will have to do it after you uninstall the programs, too, so most users opt to wait. You will then be prompted to restart your computer, and you can work on uninstalling Mywebsearch itself.
Once you restart, click on Start, then Settings and Control Panel. Go to your Add/Remove Programs list and look for Mywebsearch. Uninstall the program and anything else associated with the suite of Fun Web Products which all bundle the toolbar into their downloads and installations. Entries such as My Way Speedbar or Search Assistant should also be uninstalled. Anything from Smiley Central or other odd entries should be researched and eliminated to keep your computer free of Mywebsearch. If you do not uninstall all components, the toolbar will still be installed on your computer and running in the background whether you see it or not.
Restart your computer once more and run HijackThis again to ensure all entries are removed. If they reappear, remove them again, and restart once more. From there, click on My Computer, then C:\ and locate Fun Web Products or Mywebsearch folders in the Program Files section. Delete them and empty your Recycle Bin. Finally, run Spybot Search and Destroy or Lavasoft's Ad-aware to get rid of the registry edits left behind by the toolbar, restart your computer once more, and you will be free of the Mywebsearch Toolbar. Both programs will also track down traces of other adware or spy ware running on your computer, and they will help keep your computer clean from data mining threats in the future.
If for some reason you find Mywebsearch Toolbar installed without your consent, following these steps will help uninstall it from your computer. Chances are web sites you are visiting are leaking spyware into your computer, and you may want to figure out which ones to avoid the threat from continuing to download during your browsing time.
Disappointing. The Mywebsearch Toolbar is a pest. Like cockroaches - you don't know where they come from and are impossible to exterminate.

After all these years having this pest in my computer and luckily I found this information. I remove it at once. Thanks a lot. No wonder my computer was always slow no matter how many good antivirus and antiadware software I have installed.
I've tried removing C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\bar\1.bin\MWSBAR.DLL using both spyware/malware, anti-virus programs and by attempting to uninstall from the Control Panel (Vista) with absolutely NO luck. When I try to uninstall My Web Search (Zwinky) I get an "access denied" message. Trent Micro PC-cillin and Spyware Doctore and Spy Sweeper have also been ineffective. Anyone have any advice? I have downloaded mywebsearch three times, and it causes my computer to quit working! I really like the things it offers, like smileys, etc. Why does this happen, and why can't they straighten it out? It has happened THREE times!

This is the matrix starting to acquire information including passwords, friends, everything, a virus that you can not get rid of, so many people hate this program, did not ask for it, cant someone sue these guys, send back a killer antivirus program like in Tron to destroy it and its children.. a curse on whoever put this on the internet, curse on them and their families.
Yeah Mywebsearch is awesome. Well I might be alone here. I mean it installed itself all clandestine like and then wouldn't uninstall through Programs and Features. So I go in and manually try to uninstall it and several files are write protected. I'm sure there is no unscrupulous reason for this. So I have to brute force remove them. So my computer works fine for a while and then blue screens. Naturally I'd be wary of some dude who calls himself 'the dude' posting anything authoritative on the internet just like you but considering I haven't had anything worse than a tracking cookie since 2003 and haven't owned a computer that bluescreened since 1996 I'd say I probably don't do things that tend to produce this outcome. Mywebsearch is a piece of crap. They can deny it and pay someone to post a great review of it or whatever they want but as far as I'm concerned after working in IT for several years and having manually uninstalled several programs without ever having a problem Smiley Central, Cursor Mania, Popular Screensavers, Zwinky, Webfetti anyone else associated with mywebsearch and anyone who works for them can go get a lump of coal in their christmas stocking, among other not so brightly lit places this year.
Kaspersky will find any and all hidden files from this malicious software...after 'deleting' the web bar i was unable to search in my main web browser at all, and it deleted my set home page n replaced it with nothing. luckily i have the yahoo toolbar downloaded and was able to use that to get online and find all the 'alias's' used by the my way toolbar. and the very nice people at my way with whom i sent an e-mail to, and was promised i'd hear back from...needless to say never responded...WAY TO STAND BEHIND YOUR PRODUCT !! i'm just glad Kaspersky offers powerful and thorough security, and i was able to restore my computer back to ful functionality...STAY AWAY FROM MYWAY TOOLBAR AND ALL ITS PRODUCTS AND YOU'LL BE FINE

I was using regedit to remove this. It is clearly spyware. with a regedit window open, hit ctrl+f and type mywebsearch into the input box. then highlight the results. Hit the delete key or DEL. Repeat this until nothing shows up. It usually takes about ten or twelve tries.

This showed up on my computer about a month ago. Since then I have had a variety of problems. I can't find any programs in the Control Panel to uninstall this. I have had passwords that I cut and pasted from my email to a website show up in the search space in the mywebsearch toolbar... that is what has really freaked me out!

I have gotten this EVIL virus once, both on my parents' and my computer at the same time. My parents' computer had a worm at the time then I started to realize the worm was crawling into both our computers in our little home network. So both of us had to completley restore our computers again to the point where they were like new. My parents run on a Vista and I run on Windows 7, and since their computer was older, it was alot more defenseless against those sort of things. Be safe against mywebsearch everyone! =)

Guys, MYWEBSEARCH may indeed be a malware and will drive you crazy..However IAC, the NYSE (or maybe Nasdaq) company who owns this 'Brand' are NOT a bunch of chancers. After I wasted 5 hours (!) doing the Malwarebytes routine (scan took 1.5hrs on its own) I phoned IAC Investor's Office in NY and then their Home office also in NY. Both persons I spoke with were concerned, helpful, knowledgeable and troubled to hear I'd called from Scotland in desperation. Solution (for Win XP anyhow) : In your browser window, Go Tools, Options, General. You should see a 'Start-up' box. Then change Home Page address FROM whichever 'Smiley or Fun or Myweb' URL (which now appears there) BACK TO your old browser address (which used to work for you) Then press OK/Apply. After a Restart you should be good. Worked for me.
Mywebsearch is a hijacker and a pain to get rid of unless you know what to do. Download SUPERAntiSpyware , the free edition. Run it and when you get the results make sure you CHECK EVERY BOX on the results or it will just come back to plague you. Whoever made Mywebsearch sucks.
I'm a Mac user and Firefox has an option under Tools where you can find Add Ons (which is what My Web Search is) and it allows you to quickly uninstall the program and then restart. :D

I was really frustrated because all the instructions were for Windows and Internet Explorer.
I use Mac and Firefox, and your instructions to go to Tools then click on Add-ons easily did the trick!

Get Malwarebytes from download.com. It's FREE and will remove every trace of myweb.
I had it in my computer and have been experiencing freezes and blue screens for no reason so I'm blaming myweb.
Malwarebytes finally got rid of it.
Yeah, I so totally agree.
1.when you type chinese characters, it gets jumbled up.
2.It isn't even useful for looking for things, and always gives unrelevent pages.
3.It slows your computer down.
4.Sometimes it dosen't even DISPLAY the pages and say it did not mach any pages.

i have tried to uninstall Google My websearch, but i can't

I'm not sure why some haven't been able to remove it. I saw it in my add/remove or uninstall programs list and it specifically says "my web search toolbar" the problem for some is that it may come with something they may have downloaded, in some cases some toolbars if you don't read the agreements carefully for downloading they will have a box for you to uncheck the toolbar option (they have it checked so the toolbar will download. So you have to really not rush through the loading options. Some you can't have the program without the toolbar. So for example, if you added smiley faces in order to keep them you have to keep the toolbar that's the "snag" part of the issue. Some programs you don't have to keep the toolbar. The Smileys for example, my websearch will give you the option to disable the window for the page you are on, but if you close that window, it will reappear when you open IE again. If you close it through tools then you can have it closed or if you click the x and disable I think it hides it but still can have the smileys in your email, don't remember that part.

i find out what to do for us fire fox users we need to go to about:config in the web browser for fire fox, click yes the type myweb in the filter, right click evrything with mywebserch and hit reset, get rid of the tool bar and walla it clears most of it haha but its still there, most of it is gone and wont annoy you but it still will pop up, someone needs to sue mywebserch and get it off the internet for illegaly hacking and downloading spyware without our permission

guys...i followed the above instructions and removed mywebsearch.. i tought everything was fine..but got into another issue.. dat is.. I usually search by typing keywords directly onto the navigation bar, and it usually leads to search results from Google. But whenever I do that, it started going to MyWebSearch Search Engine.
later after lot of searching i got to know that With select versions of the My Web Search, Firefox search settings are not restored to their default value when uninstalling. so i just followed these steps and everything is back to normal...
1. Open your Firefox browser and type the following into the addressbar- about:config
2. You may see a warning message. please click the "I'll be careful, I promise" button
3. You will see a long list of browser settings, scroll down the page until you find keyword.URL (listing is in alphabetical order or click ctrl+f and type keyword.URL). The keyword.URL should reference mywebsearch in its value.
4. Highlight this line by clicking on it once, and then rightclick to bring up the menu options
5. Select "Reset" from the menu, and entry will be reset to its default value (www.google.com/search...)
6. Close the browser, and reopen it.
Once reponed n u keyword anything in the address bar it uses the google search engine..
