If you keep an address book on your computer, keeping it organized is key to finding the right contacts when you need them. If you are using software, such as Thunderbird or Outlook, you can easily edit your e-mail contacts and other information based on each contact. You can add postal address, phone number and other pertinent information. However, if you do not keep up with those contacts, you may find yourself in over your head when you finally sit down to go through your address book.

The first thing to keep in mind when organizing your address book is to maintain it from the get go. If you start off with the right attitude, you will find it a breeze to keep things organized. If not, you will just let it go until it becomes insurmountable to go through all your entries and organize them. The constant maintenance is key to keeping your address book in tip top shape.

Since most folks do not take the time to keep up their address book, they only hold onto e-mail addresses. Without adding other information, over time, you may even forget who is who in your e-mail address book. When adding an actual e-mail contact, you want to add their first and last name, along with any other information you have on them. If you have to ask for more, do so, and take what they give you and add it from the beginning. This way if you ever have to contact them in another way, you have that information on hand.

Half the battle to keep your address book organized is keeping it up from the start. By having the right mental discipline to take it seriously with each contact, you can keep it organized and keep it up-to-date no matter how many contacts you have. Taking the time to keep your address book organized will keep you from getting frustrated down the line when you have to contact someone outside the realm of e-mail or the online world.
