Over the last year, the primary DLP manufacturers have decided that DLP is a dead technology.  Therefore, the end of 2008 marks the end of production for DLP.  DLP stands for digital light processing technology.  It has been used in TVs, projectors and other displays for decades and now has seen the end of its life.

Since plasma and LCD technology has proven to be the most popular, cost efficient and consumer friendly, DLP has gone the way of the dinosaur.  Over the next few months, you will send most retailers knocking down hundreds if not thousands of dollars off DLP televisions.  There is nothing wrong with DLP technology, it simply has been out evolved by plasma and LCD counterparts.  Most manufacturers are more than willing to invest in plasma and LCD now, too, which means that new evolution in those technologies will be forthcoming.

Investing in a DLP TV now, if you are looking to make a jump to HDTV might be a smart solution for someone who has not purchased a TV in years.  This will be a much cheaper alternative to going with a plasma or LCD, especially if you have the room for how large a DLP TV is.  If you have the space, check out what retailers still carry and are looking to offload their DLP selection.

They may even be able to give you a better deal than what is listed.  Take the time to research your options, and ensure you are ready to make the leap.  If you can get a deal on a next generation TV, why not take the dive and get the most you can out of it?  If you can save a lot on a DLP TV, you will be able to invest in cables, possibly a Blu Ray player, a next generation console or more.
